The convention committee met with the hotel and everything is coming together for the 2019 PFFO convention. The agenda has been finalized and the following educational opportunities will be available “why unions still matter”, “developing contract proposals”, “at the bargaining table”, and also “leadership styles”. Those classes will be taught by Grainger Ledbetter an instructor from the University of Arkansas Labor Education Program. A breakout class for Sec/Treasurers will be held and taught by Brandon Day; Secretary/Treasurer for the Texas Fire Fighters Association.
The Behavioral health committee met on January 16th and once again discussed and brainstormed several ideas. There will be a survey for the members at the convention to fill out relating behavioral health issues. Also exploring what all resources we may be able to provide to our members concerning behavioral health including hotlines, an app to provide information to our members, providing peer support training, and providing support for spouses of those suffering from behavioral health issues.
I worked putting together a class list for the OSFA Fire School that Michael Glynn (Fort Worth President/IAFF PEP instructor) would teach.
I met with members of the Tulsa Executive Board along with Sandy McGhee, Dave Taylor, and Curtis Maloy to discuss issues concerning Tulsa’s financial situation as well as their affiliation with the PFFO and the services provided by the PFFO. Subsequent to that meeting as well as the Tulsa E-board meeting the resolution of a two-tiered system was submitted by Local 176 and Local 157.
I have been working with Chalk to finalize the language for the adjustments needed to the Fire and Police Arbitration Act concerning certifications/decertification’s as well as the processing of unfair labor practices. Currently bill drafting is working on the language to blend what we have put together as well as what the department of labor put together.
